Firm History

The Firm’s History began when, after serving as a law clerk for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, William Edward Jenner moved to Madison, Indiana in the fall of 1968 and opened a law practice. In 1979 he joined with attorney Gary Kemper to form a partnership of Jenner and Kemper. Darrell M. Auxier joined the firm in 1983 and became a partner in 1988.

The firm achieved an AV rating given by Martindale Hubbell in 1980 and has maintained that rating continuously since that time. Nancy Jacobs, a Prosecuting Attorney for eight years, joined the firm in 2003. In 2004, Jason Pattison associated with the firm and then became a partner in January of 2006. Joe Jenner joined the firm in 2007, becoming a partner in 2009. In October 2012, David Sutter joined the firm as an associate. In November 2012, Darrell Auxier was elected Judge of the Jefferson Circuit Court for a six year term.

In October of 2013, the firm merged with the law firm of Collins, Hensley & Wynn to form Jenner, Pattison, Hensley & Wynn. Mark Wynn and Mike Hensley joined as partners and Lonnie Collins retired at the end of 2013. In November 2014, Mike Hensley was elected Judge of the Jefferson Superior Court for a six year term. In January 2015, the firm name changed to Jenner, Pattison, Sutter & Wynn with the addition of David Sutter as partner.

In 2017, Mark Wynn became the Chief Deputy Prosecutor in Washington County. The firm name changed to Jenner, Pattison & Sutter.

In 2018, David Sutter was appointed the Prosecuting Attorney in Jefferson County. The firm changed to its current name to Jenner & Pattison.

The firm’s primary focus since its inception has been litigation, with trial and appellate practice in state and federal courts. The firm has two offices in Madison and one in North Vernon, Indiana.

Today William Edward Jenner serves as of counsel to the firm. Jenner does mostly appellate work, having successfully argued cases before the Indiana Appellate and Supreme Courts and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. Jason Pattison, William Joseph Jenner and Devon M. Sharpe are attorneys in the firm now known as Jenner & Pattison.

Jenner & Pattison has an active civil, personal injury, real estate, estate planning, criminal and Social Security Disability practice. In addition, they represent and have represented many corporate clients, large and small, within the community. Their extensive trial practice includes business litigation, personal injury actions involving auto and trucking collisions, product liability, and medical malpractice. They have not only represented plaintiffs, but have also done defense work in those types of litigation. They also devote a great deal of time to probate, trust, and real estate matters.

William Joseph Jenner currently serves as attorney for the City of Madison and members of the firm have served as City and County Attorney in the past. Devon M. Sharpe presently serves as attorney for the Town of Hanover and City of Madison Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and Historic Board. The firm also served as attorney for Madison Consolidated Schools for over twenty-five years. The firm is large enough to provide service to a wide variety of clients and small enough to give individual attention to all their clients. They also have several legal assistants with extensive law experience in probate, trust and estate planning, disability, real estate and personal injury. Their efficient and friendly staff of nine totals over one hundred years of combined legal secretarial, paralegal, and certified legal assistant experience.
